Don’t miss Easley’s production of Agatha Christie’s A Murder Is Announced

The opening night for Agatha Christie’s A Murder Is Announced is next Friday, October 7, 2022, at the Foothills Playhouse in Easley.

A play based on a mystery novel featuring Christie’s fictional detective Miss Marple, about a murder that was announced in advance in the local newspaper. First printed in 1950, this is the 50th novel by the queen of detective fiction. Unlike many of her novels, this one is wittier, and at times even funny.

A Murder is Announced was adapted for the stage by Leslie Darbon and is directed by the theater’s Executive Artistic Director Derick Pindroh. The cast and crew are made up of over 20 volunteers who worked hundreds of hours over a six-week period to bring the show to life for the community.

This is the 5th production of the year and the 39th season for the Foothills Playhouse.

Despite the name of the play, it is family-friendly. Perhaps not for the infant and young toddler crowd, but certainly for everyone that can sit through a show.

The Foothills Playhouse sits right behind the Silos in Easley, so this would be a great addition to a dinner night out if you can snag tickets.

About Foothills Playhouse in Easley, SC

Foothills Playhouse is a charming local community theater established over 40 years ago in 1981.

It moved into the historic West End Hall in 1991, the building that used to house West End Elementary School. The 200-seat auditorium is on the upper level.

Guests can arrive through the grand entrance at the front under the brand new awning, or the theater entrance from the parking lot behind the building.

Foothills Playhouse is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that puts on six live shows per year. Because theaters were the first to shut down, and the last to reopen, the theater struggled to survive during the pandemic. Derick Pindroh is the only paid staff member since 2019, and even he is part-time, also working for a church in Anderson.

With the royalties the theater pays for each show, ticket sales alone don’t cover all of FHP’s expenses, and it relies heavily on community donations and business sponsorships.

The playhouse is overseen by a nine-member board led by Rose Waaser, the Board President. She shared the following statement with the Easley Citizen:

“We want the community to know that we are working hard to provide family-friendly plays. We are a non-profit and rely on donations and sponsorships. We hit a rough spot because of COVID and had to cancel shows. We are seeking sponsorships for the next season. Go to our website for more information. Next season’s reveal will be online October 1 and a show will be posted every 30 minutes. Thank you, and I hope you come to see the show.”
