Gettys Middle School students win award at the 2023 Robotics World Championship

GMS students at the the 2023 Robotics World Championship: Calder Adams, Wyatt Reeves, and Kathrin Patterson

Team 77240G, a group of 3 students from Gettys Middle School in Easley, competed in the 2023 VEX Robotics World Championship this past week.

“We had a great time in Dallas,” team Coach Jeff Tharpe said. “Took a couple of days before the competition to get acclimated, check the robot, do some sightseeing, tour some museums, and eat great brisket. It paid off.”

It sure did! They received the Build Award in the competition. The “Build Award” is given to a robot with great build quality.

To be the recipient of the Build Award at the 2023 VEX Robotics World Championship is a pretty big deal.

This was the ONLY award from any team from the state of South Carolina, and a GMS first.
