EASLEY, S.C. – The Pickens County Coroner’s Office has identified a woman who was found unresponsive.
The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office said a woman was found unresponsive Saturday morning lying outside the wood line behind Tabor United Methodist Church on Ireland Road in Easley.
The sheriff’s office said it received the report shortly after 4:30 a.m.
The coroner has identified the woman as Kaitlyn Mack, 21, of Central, and ruled her death to be a homicide.
Mack has been sent for an autopsy on Saturday, according to the coroner.
According to the report, Mack appeared to have head and face injuries.
Deputies say the woman died from her injuries and her death appears suspicious so detectives were called to the scene.
According to deputies, Zachary Earl Roach, 25, of Pickens was the person of interest and was eventually interviewed by detectives which led to his arrest.
According to arrest warrants, Roach killed Mack by striking her numerous times in the head and face, causing her death.
Roach was taken into custody and charged with one count of murder at this time, according to deputies.
Deputies say Roach is being held at Pickens County Detention Center and has been given no bond.
